The Louvre. I enjoyed the old paintings and sculptures. The museum is so huge, one can easily justify missing out all the boring sections and skim viewing the paintings...
Mona Lisa. What a deflate. First of all the painting is small. Secondly it is metres behind a barrier, behind glass. Thirdly there are crowds all trying to get photographs of it... I certainly enjoyed other paintings more!

Eiffel Tower
We almost went up on Thursday evening. As we were standing in line at about 9.45pm (dusk), Byrdie thought it would be better to go up a bit earlier to see the city in full daylight.... so we decide to leave it until Friday evening.
On Friday, by the time I finished at the Louvre and we walked to the Eiffel tower it was 9.45pm but there were crowds of people. signs about overcrowding at the time and delays waiting for lifts... we went up anyway. some of the excitement dwindles with queues and crowds... We did get to see the lights twinkle three times though (they only twinkle on the hour for 10 minutes)

Had a bit of a mission getting back to the campground. queue for metro. no ticket (ended up squeezing through with person behind me, much to her suprise). wait for metro train. missed last bus. Byrdie waited at bus stop for ages then went back to campsite (on bike). I started to walk but it started to get dodgy. A large, voluptuous black working lady with bleached hair started to talk to me... I managed to understand "thwack" if I walked, and to get a taxi... Finally got taxi. interesting scenery of scandily clad prostitutes and back to campground, where frantic Byrdie opened the taxi door "I was about to come looking for you"... relief obvious.
What a fun city! We were lucky to be there on Saturday night when there was a festival. Music and people everywhere. A pedestrian bridge over the river packed with scrumptious looking picnics and people. bicycles. rollerblades. we cycled around and soaked up the atmosphere.
