Cadaques

From Figueres, we cycled over a large hill to Cadaques, a coastal town. One of the reasons for going there was the casa Dali museum - Salvador Dali´s house for 50 years.

Cadaques is a really pretty town. Whitewashed houses with bright shutters... nice coast line with islands. Dali's house was well worth going to especially after seeing the museum of his art. He had some weird stuff around his house but actually surprisingly not too tacky...

After seeing a few people on scooters, we decided to hire one for a day and go further up the coast; the nicest region of the Costa Brava coast apparently - and we weren't going to backtrack that far on our bikes... The first hire place wouldn't hire one out to us after Byrdie told him she had used one only once previously. Second shop no problem. Byrdie ended up doing most of the driving as I couldn't get the hang of cornering... We went right up to the French border where we had to turn around otherwise our scooter insurance wouldn't be valid.

So, we stayed in Cadaques two nights before heading south to Girona. Rather than take the only sealed road in - the one we had ridden over to get there, we decided to take the unsealed option. Was definitely the long way on rocky, uneven dirt track... It was a cycle route though, with a warning that it is only suitable for mountain bikes. In France no matter how small and unused a road was it always had perfect tarmac... off roading was fun for a change though. probably not great for a fully loaded bike.

We called in for a break at Roses to and from Cadaques. Roses is a resort town with lots of overweight 60+ year olds not wearing very much. There was an incredible sand sculpture. We got a photo with it. I suggested maybe we should leave a small tip in the tipping dish seeing as we took photos. Byrdie said "If I made something beautiful, I would want people to appreciate it. i wouldn't want money" so that was that.

We ended up cycling over 90km to Girona through lots of smelly farmland.

Well,... if I put a tipping dish next to my artwork, it would be there for people to show there appreciation with a few coins.
