Carcassone old city looked very cool from the outside. Was very touristy in the inside...
Originally we were going to take the train from Carcassonne to Barcelona, but the final two days of the cycle route sounded too good to miss "The foot of the Pyrenees". So, we set out in the drizzle, which soon turned to rain and did lots of hills. No view of the amazing Pyrennees through all the cloud... By the time we got to the small town we were staying at, the sun came out (and it was hot) and then a quick heavy rain shower and then sun... we had to rush all our clothes that were drying back inside... and then end up sweltering in the tent. I just ended up sheltering in the tent with my good book. sun or not...
The following final day of the route the weather was spectacular and the views just amazing. The theme for this region seems to be vineyards and ruins of chateaus on large mountains... and the mountains looked incredible. We had a tail wind all day which made easy cycling despite all the climbs. We ended up doing an extra 20km than planned just to get to an open campground... After appreciating the help from the wind during the day, it drove me nuts at the campground.
