Cycling to Carcassonne

From the lake we did a days cycling to a small sleepy village. The red soil was impressive and an area by the side of the road had hundreds of names written with contrasting white pebbles - we just had to write ours. Fortunately we always carry a lot of food as none of the towns we went through had shops... cereal for lunch!

Another two days cycling to get to Carcassonne... one which had a lot of uphill.

Today we cycled to Carcassonne... a big uphill, followed by a long downhill through an amazing gorge with waterfalls galore. The author of this section of the cycle guide seems to downplay everything (a "level" side trip today was hilly), so the gorge was a pleasant suprise after not much expectation. Have yet to explore the old city of Carcassonne... will do so shortly.
