We are camping at youth hostel at Nimes... means kitchen, indoor facilities, but the price of camping... and it HASN'T rained since we got here! the guy at the hostel said there has been more rain recently than he has seen in the last 16 years. (lucky us). Had the special of rabbit and fries with dinner and some cheap wine... yum. fries are such a treat!
Nimes is a cool city. We had day off today... and actually did some touristy stuff. We bought a pass for three monuments for 8 euro. The first was the"Arenes", one of the most preserved amphitheatres. had a great (actually interesting) audioguide. The arena is still used for bullfight shows etc... I would recommend definitely (a visit that is; not necessarily a show). I learnt more about the Roman era than I did in Rome! Then we went to to the Maison Carree 'Square House'; the most preserved temples (everything is always the biggest, oldest or most preserved...). we went in expected a museum, instead they had a 3D movie! with gladiators and bullfighters etc... then there was the Magne tower, with views over the city...
tomorrow we start the next cycle route...
