Avignon

From Vaison-la-Romaine, we did the final day of Lonely planets "The Luberon and Mt Ventoux" route... we did take a short cut though... still recovering from the previous day up Mt Ventoux.

The day started with some river crossings...


We stopped for lunch at a place called Orange. Dunno how it is supposed to be pronounced, I just called it like the fruit. had lunch at very large roman "Arc de Triomphe".


Avignon very pretty medievel city. We stayed at a campground on a island in the large river - comes with a warning about evacuation if river rises too much... It was a pity about the rain and the AWFUL biting insects...



We also had the noisiest tent next to us... lie there awake thinking, right when we get up early in the morning I'll make lots of noise. revenge. Byrdie told them to be quiet at 3.30am and they did. The next morning they woke before we did at about 6am. so much for revenge... they were even packed up and gone by the time we got back from our breakfast by the river (fantastic views across to the walled city).
